2005 CIBPA Ottawa Scholarship Awards Night

November 8, 2005, Marconi Centre - The CIBPA Ottawa Scholarship Awards Program awarded scholarships to three recipients: Lisa Aquilino, Lisa D'Addese, and Antoni Casalinuovo. The 2005 recipients are currently completing their respective post-secondary studies and each continues to actively participate in various community initiatives.

Scholarships were donated by BMO Bank of Montreal, Pat Adamo, The Honourable Madame Justice Giovanna Roccamo, and various individual and corporate members of CIBPA Ottawa.

Madame Justice Giovanna Roccamo, herself a scholarship winner in 1979, shared a special message to each of the scholarship winners about the importance of maintaining one's culture and of giving back to the community.

"To each of our scholarship recipients, today is an unspoken dream of your parents and their parents before them. It is a common dream of parents that a child be, and have, what was denied to them. Become good diplomats for our community. Keep the dream alive, and when you become the success you surely will, give back to your community, and future generations of students will look up to you."

Michael Aquilino, one of the 2004 scholarship recipients, spoke about the challenges he faced in moving to Ottawa to pursue his post-secondary studies and how the CIBPA scholarship and its members was of benefit to him.

"As a student, and also as a past recipient, I fully understand the value of this award and am thankful for its existence. I was able to find a sense of community through the University, with a new circle of friends, and with groups such as CIBPA, which keep the traditional Italian values alive."

On behalf of the scholarship organizing committee, many thanks to our various donors and long time supporters.
